Why Teaching In English May Not Be Such A Good Idea

Every time one hears about the English Language, you get to realize, once again, just how important this particular language is, and how absolutely essential it is to learn to speak it properly. After all, English is an international language, the most widely spoken one in the world. Then again, should English be the sole medium of communication for just about everyone across the world? Here is where a number of issues arise. In many countries around the world, especially when it comes to the developing or underdeveloped countries across the world, teaching in English is usually the only option available. Not all the students in these countries are born speaking English. In fact, in a world of 7.5 billion people, only 360 million are born native English speakers. However, 1.5 billion people in the world speak the language.

Once again, research has indicated that students as well as teachers, even those who are highly proficient in the English language, communicate better in their native tongue.
  • Offering English Language courses does not mean immigrant population will stay longer
    Universities across the world offer courses in English Language and students (immigrants enroll in them successfully. However, just taking a course in English does not necessarily imply that the immigrant student will not apply for a job abroad. That is why using language is bait is not the best idea to get students to work and stay in the country where they studied either!
